What does a Joomla! update entail?

Just like with any software, Joomla! requires continued maintenance to ensure that it keeps up with the ever-changing standards of the world-wide web! This comes in the form of updates which add new funcitonality to the Joomla! content management system (CMS), as well as fix any bugs or holes in web security that may have been discovered in previous versions of the CMS.

Joomla! updates are introduced somehwere around once every two months. While every update is not necessary right away, it is important to ensure that your website is up-to-date! Updates will include evaluating your current Joomla! CMS version and then updating to the latest. Some updates are more major than others, and typically end with a ".0" or a ".5". Other updates might be specific to a security issue or a bug fix that has been noticed. These smaller updates are recommended, but are not required.

How much does a Joomla! update generally cost?

Web Central has the ability to update websites going back to Joomla 1.0 and 1.5.

Since we are currently on Joomla 3.x and about to enter into Joomla 4, costs for updates will depend upon what version you are currently using for your Joomla! website. The extensions you have on your site will also assist in determining the cost. Some Joomla! extensions have stopped support since Joomla 1.5 or Joomla 1.7 and will not be able to migrate to Joomla 3.x.

What if I have an old version of Joomla?

Web Central has the ability to update websites going back to Joomla 1.0 and 1.5.

Depending on the support of the template, we may not be able to run a Joomla! update. In those cases, we will find a template that closely matches your current design. From there, we will just migrate everything to the newly installed template and ensure that everything is working properly.
